Poem Essay
Life is a valuable gift that can't be replaced. It can either be spent wisely or it can be spent wastefully. Life's about making choices and decisions that can later on affect you. Ever since you were a kid, you were constantly making decisions, whether to do this or that. In the poem "A Coney Island Life" by James L. Weil he teaches us that a good life is only possible with sacrifices, because life only gives you enough time for the important things.
Priority means putting what's important first. "How many more times round I have to catch that brass-ring sun before the game is up." The author writes this to let others know that if you wait too long or put unimportant tasks first, doors close before you. Doors that would have held dreams or lifetime goals. It’s always better to try and fail than to never have tried at all. "Seen my helium hopes break skyward without me." No one likes to see their hopes drift away, but when the right steps are taken it is possible to accomplish goals. Goals that may have seemed nearly impossible before, may now seem like their in arms reach. Remember that dreams are a balloon, they either can be held on tightly to, our they could be let go only to disappear from view. Giving a little more effort when it comes down to important tasks in life can be the make or break moment that keeps you afloat and ready for another day in your life.
In order to fit life's tasks into a lifetime, sacrifices need to be made. "Now arms filed with dolls I threw so much for." Your arms can only hold so much, so in order to keep everything that you need to hold/ accomplish from falling, sacrifices are key. Should you try for a bigger doll, or should you be contempt with what you have and not overcrowd yourself. Is an example of sacrifices that need to be made daily. "I take perhaps my last ride on this planet-carousel." It's nearly impossible to do everything that this world offers in one lifetime. You could die tomorrow or in the next minute, and so, sacrifice unnecessary things and accomplish what needs to be done now before it's too late. This doesn't mean staying up super late just to do things that you always wanted to do, it means not wasting valuable time on worthless tasks but instead using time for the important things in life.
In conclusion, spend your time in this lifetime wisely. Don't waste time on useless things like catching up on the latest tv show, but use that time to fulfill dreams that you may have. Bottom line, is that you only live on this planet once so you might as well spend your life chasing the important things, and not the other way around. If life every gets confusing think back to "A Coney Island Life" by James L. Weil and how he talks about making sacrifices and focusing on the important tasks in life. Just be sure to live a life without regrets because as of right now you can't go back in time, but who knows maybe it’s someones dream to build one.
